As per the deal, Apple will shut down the dark sky Android app on July 1, 2020.

Popular weather app Dark Sky announced that it has joined apple. The Dark Sky app is popular for its radar maps and high level of accuracy in hyperlocal weather predictions. In a blog post, the company announced that the decision to join Apple is to extend their goal of providing the world with the best weather information possible, to help as many people as we can stay dry and safe, and to do so in a way that respects your privacy.
“There is no better place to accomplish these goals than at Apple. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to reach far more people, with far more impact, than we ever could alone,” the company further added that There will be no changes to Dark Sky for iOS at this time. It will continue to be available for purchase in the Apple store.
For the API, Dark Sky has stopped taking new signups and it will officially stop functioning for existing users come 2022. It is a bummer for many apps and services like popular Carrot Weather, Google Chrome weather extensions, DuckDuckGo, Microsoft, RunKeeper, Yelp and more.
The android Dark Sky App is no longer available to download and the existing users have to switch to a replacement weather app come July 1, 2020. The existing Subscribers would receive a refund when Apple gets Dark Sky to remove it from these operating systems. The Dark forecasts, maps and embeds would continue to remain available on the web till July 1, 2020.
The acquisition of Dark Sky app will help Apple bring major improvement in its native IOS weather app. The native IOS weather app hasn’t seen any substantial overhaul since ios 7 apart from making a switch to “The Weather Channel” with IOS 8.
